The Beginning
Mel’s journey to founding Angel Ashes began with a personal experience. After a negative encounter with a pet cremation service, she was left holding an urn, uncertain if it truly contained her beloved cat, Oakley-Bean. This shattered her trust and inspired her to create a service that offers certainty, respect, and comfort to pet owners.
In 2008, Mel established Angel Ashes to provide compassionate pet cremations and memorial products. Jay joined in 2010, and they married in 2011, working side by side to ensure you receive only your pet’s ashes.

Mel’s dedication to Angel Ashes comes from a deeply personal place. Despite the years that have passed, she remains moved by every pet’s story and feels honoured to support families through their journey of grief. Knowing how vital compassionate guidance is—something she wished she had during her own experience—Mel ensures every client feels understood and cared for.
Understanding the emotional needs of their community, Mel also initiated a Pet Loss Support Group on Facebook, creating a safe space for families to share and connect with others who have felt the same loss.
